Dream Big, Sacrifice Bigger

2015 has been a big year of change for me. After much prayer and consideration, my husband and I decided it was time to do something new. We decided to move. We did not just move to a new neighborhood or new city. We decided to leave everything behind in Atlanta and move literally across the country to Los Angeles, California.

Why Los Angles you ask? Because I have big dreams and big dreams require big sacrifices. Now, I am in the heart of where dreams are born and stars are made.

I love being a chef. Although there are tons of minorities working in professional kitchens, I don’t think there are enough represented in the media today. For years, my goal has been to showcase my talents on television and represent for women and minorities in the kitchen.

Although I have been on numerous programs, I want my own show. I will continue to do what it takes to get there, even if it means sacrificing much to gain even more.

What is your big dream? What is it you have been working towards or thinking of working towards for years? What sacrifices are you making to see your dream come true? I realized if you want others to believe in you, you have to be willing to bet it all on yourself first. No one will take you seriously to help you if you are not all in for yourself.

If that big dream still seems distant, I encourage you to continue working at it. Never give up. The good thing is that as time goes by, you are always one day closer to it than your were on yesterday.

If that big dream is still on the shelf and seems more like a big wish than a future reality, stop wishing and do something about it. Start by making a list of a few things you could to right now to help you get closer to it. Maybe it starts by just getting over the fear. Tell someone about this dream. Every great accomplishment started by speaking it into existence first.

Meditate on this dream. Imagine what it looks like. That dream job, new business, new life, picture it in full color. Add it to your prayer list. Write it down and post it up so you can look at it every day. Constantly remind yourself that there are still greater things to be done in your life.

Your dream may not be a show on network television, but it is something significant. Picture yourself there, make the necessary sacrifices, and then just jump. God will catch you!
