Chef Jamika PessoaSay the word “chef” and traditionally, it conjures up images of a big white hat atop a restaurant chef. However, the recipe for this dynamic chef goes against all tradition. Chef Jamika is known for her bold flavors and sassy personality to say the least.

Beginning her professional career as a corporate marketing executive, Chef Jamika gave up her lucrative job to pursue her passion for food and cooking to enter the culinary industry. Her classical training included studying in European countries such as Venice, Italy and Vienna, Austria and graduation from the International Culinary Schools at the Art Institute of Atlanta. She also worked for the renowned Ritz Carlton Hotel.

Recognizing her yearning to be the boss, she paired her love for cooking and entertaining and in 2006, began her business – Life of the Party Catering. Positioned as a “Chef to the Stars”, Chef Jamika became a highly sought after personal chef in Atlanta, Georgia, cooking for numerous celebrities and professional athletes. She expanded her business by becoming the chef for various corporate events hosted by Sony BMG Music Entertainment, Def Jam Recordings, Black Entertainment Television, the Atlanta Braves, and the Atlanta Hawks.

Jamika’s cooking style is described as playful and modern. Blending her Caribbean heritage with her Southern roots, she is most frequently called upon to prepare her inventive Southern Caribbean Fusion dishes. Chef Jamika describes her flavor profile as Southern Sweet meets Caribbean Heat!

As a national brand, she is most well-known for her classy and clever parties and events. She loves to have a good time and is the self-proclaimed “Life of the Party”, (hence the name of her company) . She caterers to audiences by showcasing how to party and cook in style from conception to execution.

As a certified Nutrition and Wellness Consultant, and advocate for ending childhood obesity, Chef Jamika is often invited as a nutrition expert to speak at numerous health expos and corporate events. Ebony Magazine also named Chef Jamika as one of the Top African-American chefs in the country.

With Jamika’s bright and witty personality, television was an inevitable avenue to pursue.  Chef Jamika brought her enjoyment for being in front of the camera to the mainstream by becoming a contestant on the competition series, The Next Food Network Star, season 5. Jamika took the competition down to the final rounds and won the hearts of millions of viewers.

She began her professional television career as one of the hosts on TLC’s lifestyle improvement show Home Made Simple.  She has also been seen as a guest on shows like the Today Show and the Rachael Ray Show. You may have seen her on ABC’s hit daytime talk show, The CHEW, travelling from coast to coast introducing millions of viewers to great food, and fun times. As a regular contributor for the Cooking Channel’s Best Thing I Ever Ate, Jamika loves showing her fans the best places to eat around the country. Her experience and knowledge has also earned her a spot at the judges tables of  cooking competitions shows such as Chopped Jr. and Ultimate Summer Cook-off on Food Network. Now you can enjoy lots of laughs and some good food with her as the co-host of Food Network’s new talk show Let’s Eat! airing Sunday mornings at 11am.

Jamika also hosts events, conducts cooking demonstrations, and is a celebrity spokesperson of numerous national brands.

She is a dynamic business woman and inspiration dispelling the perceptions of what a female chef can do. She is ‘stirring’ up the food industry one meal at a time and loving every minute of it.
